Welcome
Hi there and welcome! On the UK Railway Pics site you will find various images of the UK railway scene, these are arranged by loco type for loco's, and by operator for units and high speed train sets.     Arriva Trains Northern DMU and EMU sets, see the Hauled Coaching stock collection for shots of the Mk2's used on the Leeds-Carlisle services. Some of the class 158 units pictured here were transferred to the new TransPennine Express franchise (First Group) in early 2004. The remainder of ATN was merged into the new Northern franchise in November 2004.

    Arriva Trains Wales came into being in December 2003, taking over the former Wales & Borders and Valley Lines franchises (see separate folders) - ATW sub-lease some of their class 175 units to Trans Pennine Express. Class 142, 143, 150, 153, 158 and 175 units can be found here.

    C2C run routes East from London Fenchurch St with a fleet of class 357 Electrostar units.

    Created in late 2007 from part of Virgin Cross Country and part of Central Trains, this TOC is operated by Arriva and operates an interesting mixed fleet of HST sets, class 220/221 Voyager units and class 170 Turbostars

    Eurostar operate international trains from London Waterloo to Paris, Brussels and other European destinations.

    First took over the West Anglia Great Northern (WAGN) and Thameslink franchises, with the combined franchise now running under the FCC name. FCC rosters units of classes 313, 317, 319 and 365
    TOC: First Great Western 142 Pacers (56 images)
    First Great Western received 12 class 142 units in late 2007 for services from Exeter to Barnstaple, Exmouth and Paignton.
    TOC: First Great Western 143 pacers (34 images)
    FGW inherited a handful of class 143 'pacer' units from Wessex, used mostly from the Bristol area but occasionally straying from that area.
    TOC: First Great Western 150 DMU's (151 images)
    First Great Western inherited 25 class 150/2 units from Wessex Trains - 8 of these have since moved on to work for Arriva Trains Wales
    TOC: First Great Western 153 DMU's (100 images)
    First Great Western inherited loads of 153's from Wessex, in Heart of Wessex red, Devon & Cornwall black and two in a nice Wessex Trains blue scheme.
    TOC: First Great Western 158 DMU's (169 images)
    First Great Western class 158's, includes the wide variety of units that have worked for First Great Western in former Wessex, Central Trains, First Scotrail and Trans Pennine schemes.
    TOC: First Great Western 165 and 166 units (64 images)
    These units were inherited from the old Thames Trains franchise, becoming "First Great Western Link", now part of the Greater Western franchise. FGWL rosters a mix of class 165/1 and 166 90mph DMU's, the 166's are set up for longer distance work and are air conditioned.

    First Great Western HST sets.
    TOC: First North Western (Franchise now finished) (34 images)
    First North Western, including shots of class 142, 150, 156, 158 and 323 units - FNW finished operating in November 2004, services being taken over by Northern.
    TOC: First Scotrail (33 images)
    First Scotrail operate inter-urban and regional services within Scotland, plus a pair of sleeper trains the connect to London. See Class 90 and UKRailRollingStock for the sleeper equipment.
    TOC: First Trans-Pennine Express (55 images)
    TPX has recently taken over parts of the Arriva Trains Northern and First North Western networks. They have new units on order, but have slapped decals on the lower body of their class 158's to achieve a 'Corporate Identity' of sorts. First currently have new class 185 Desiro units being delivered. TPX also lease some of Arriva Trains Wales's class 175 units at present, see the ATW section for photo's of those.
    TOC: Gatwick Express (33 images)
    Assorted images of the class 460 8-GAT Gatwick Express units.
    TOC: GNER (Franchise now Finished) (68 images)
    GNER Eurostar, HST and general train images, includes several shots of Virgin summer saturday workings to the west country. See the AC Electric loco section above for more shots of class 91's. The East Coast franchise was taken over by National Express East Coast from late 2007.
    TOC: Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect (19 images)
    Heathrow Express operates non-stop trains from Paddington to Heathrow using class 332 units, Heathrow Connect has a small fleet of class 360 Desiro units and provides a stopping service between Paddington and Hayes & Harlington, and then turns south to Heathrow.
    TOC: Hull Trains (4 images)
    Hull Trains (operated by First Group) runs a small fleet of class 222 'Pioneer' 125mph diesel units on trains between Kings Cross and Hull.
    TOC: London Midland (23 images)
    London Midland was created during 2008 from the long distance parts of Silverlink combined with the Birmingham-orientated bits of Central Trains
    TOC: London Overground (26 images)
    London Overground is run by TfL and was created in late 2007 from the suburban parts of Silverlink Metro, it operates the North London Line, Gospel Oak-Barking, West London Line and Euston-Watford services - on completion of the East London Line it will take over services there from Underground.
    TOC: Midland Mainline (Franchise now finished) (54 images)
    Midland Mainline HST, Turbostar and Meridien shots. The Turbostar units have since moved on to work for Central Trains. Many of these shots were taken of HST sets on hire to Virgin for summer saturday trains to the South West.
    TOC: National Express East Anglia (formerly ONE) (307 images)
    One took over all operations into London Liverpool St station, replacing Anglia, First Great Eastern and part of WAGN. For ONE class 90's see the AC electric loco's section, and for hauled coaching stock see UK rolling stock. ONE was renamed National Express East Anglia in early 2008.
    TOC: Northern (142 images)
    Northern took over from Arriva Trains Northern and First North Western, it operates local services across the North of England.
    TOC: Silverlink (Franchise Now Finished) (112 images)
    Silverlink operated stopping and semi-fast services on the lower end of the WCML, along with the North London Line, Barking to Gospel Oak and branches to Bedford and St Albans Abbey. Silverlink finished operating in November 2007 with the long distance services moving to a new operator "London Midland", and the London area services being operated by TfL as "London Overground"

    South Eastern Trains took over from Connex South Eastern, many of the images here include some trains still in Connex (or even Network Southeast!) colours. Includes a couple of shots of Connex 4-VEPs plus Classes 375, 376, 465, 466, 508
    TOC: South West Trains Diesel units (275 images)
    South West Trains diesel units. Detail and roster shots of SWT's class 158, 159 and 170 units, plus the 'bubble car' route learner, 977860.

    TOC: Southern Railway (South Central) (271 images)
    South Central MU's, Various Turbostar and Electrostar images, plus 319's, 455's and 456's, and the now retired 4-CIGs.
    TOC: Thameslink (Franchise now finished) (16 images)
    Both the Thameslink and WAGN franchises finished in early 2006 and a new franchise 'First Capital Connect' took over. These images are all shot before the end of Thameslink.
    TOC: Valley Lines (Franchise now finished) (56 images)
    The Valley Lines gallery, class 142, 143 and 150 units including some livery element/detail shots. 42 Images. Valley Lines was a separate TOC, and then an operating unit of Wales and Borders Trains until the 7th December 2003, when it ceased to exist and was merged into the Arriva Trains Wales "Walesrail" Franchise. ATW quickly set about removing the Valley Lines image.

    Detail and general images of Virgin Voyager trainsets, both class 220 Voyager and class 221 tilting Super-Voyager trainsets.
    TOC: Wales & Borders Trains (Franchise Now Finished) (36 images)
    Classes 153 and 158 featured. Includes a few detail images of livery elements, 37 Images. Wales & Borders grew out of part of the Wales & West franchise, (the other part becoming Wessex Trains), and took over services in mid-Wales from Central Trains, and North Wales from First Group in order to prepare for a unified Welsh franchise. Arriva Trains Wales took over this franchise from the 7th December 2003, and quickly started removing the W&B brandnames. These photo's provide a record of the Wales & Borders years...
    TOC: Wessex Trains Class 143 (Franchise now finished) (85 images)
    Wessex Trains class 143 units - The Wessex 143's all carry the www.visitbristol.co.uk scheme, but there are different livery elements between units. Note - 143622 and 143623 are now Arriva Trains Wales units but carried this livery when they were Wessex units, more recent shots of them can be found in the ATW folders.
    TOC: Wessex Trains Class 150 (Franchise now finished) (230 images)
    Wessex Trains class 150/2 units - All Wessex 150's are now painted in a new Purple and Lilac scheme, every unit carries different pictorial decals showing parts of the Wessex system, some are also named. This album contains a mix of Detail and general shots of the units, in both refurbished and unrefurbished condition, plus a couple of short-term lease machines that carry other operators schemes. See the separate collection for side-on detail shots of the liveries.

Detail shots of both schemes are included in this collection, plus shots of the two units that still carry Regional Railways livery with Central Trains branding.
